Jenna Mickelson, a junior at Lutheran High School, was killed in a car accident on Thursday, October 21, in Owatonna, Minnesota. While we mourn the loss of Jenna here on earth, we rejoice in the knowledge that, through Christ's death and resurrection, she has been born to eternal life.
On Monday, October 25, LHS students and staff gathered together for a special chapel service. A memorial service waas held on Saturday, October 30, at Lutheran Church of the Redemption in Bloomington.
At that memorial service, LHS students Daniel Noethe and Shawn Peterson read the following song lyrics, written by Dan and Shawn in memory of Jenna:
Led Into Paradise
Let angels lead you in To the paradise within Through pearly gates Forget the pain The angels lead you in
Your smile is missed The memories relived The joy and laughter you'd give Your life, too short to end But you live again The angels lead you in
We can't understand Or comprehend What it's like to have new life We cry in tears But it's still clear You're living in paradise
The angels lead you in To the paradise within Through pearly gates Forget the pain The angels lead you in
We're missing you But you've gone to A life without pain No hurt, no tears And no more fears He holds you in his grace
The angels lead you in To the paradise within Through pearly gates Forget the pain The angels lead you home
The following is reprinted from the worship folder at Jenna's memorial service.
Jenna Marie Mickelson was born on July 28, 1987 in Burnsville, Minnesota, the daughter of Richard and Joan (Walters) Mickelson. She was born anew through the rite of Holy Baptism on October 4, 1987, at Woodlake Lutheran Church. The family became members of Lutheran Church of the Redemption in Bloomington in 1995. Jenna attended Mt. Hope--Redemption Lutheran School for most of her elementary education and graduated from Bloomington Christian School before attending Lutheran High. She affirmed the faith of her baptism and was confirmed on March 24, 2002, having been instructed by Pastor Drews and Director of Youth and Family Ministry Janine Zitzow. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 118:1: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
Jenna was currently a junior at Lutheran High School and loved everything about school—her teachers and socializing with her friends. Jenna cherished the time she spent with her family, especially enjoying the family vacations they took together. Her favorite pastimes were driving her red Ford Explorer, eating anything with chocolate, and talking with her friends on the phone.
Those who mourn her death include her parents, Richard and Joni Mickelson; her sister Katrina and brother Brandon; maternal grandparents Richard and Delores Lindell of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her aunts and uncles, Tom and Kathie Groeneweg of Clarks Grove, Minnesota; John and Jaynee Lee of Brooklyn Park, -Minnesota; Annette Harrison of Rochester, Minnesota; and Richard and Jean Nadler of San Francisco, California; her godparents, Brian and Kelly Schmidt, and their daughter Samantha of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and many cousins; also three special dogs, Kiska, Tommy, and Kujo.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents.
Please keep Jenna's family and friends, as well as the entire LHS community, in your prayers during this difficult time.
